Many students at Schoolcraft College transfer out to universities and knowing where to transfer takes a lot of planning. Thankfully, students and community members have the opportunity to meet with representatives of over 80 colleges at College Night Oct. 2 from 6-8 the VisTaTech Center. Representatives from universities—large/small, urban/suburban, public/private, in-state/out-of-state, etc. will be on hand. The event features an open house format to allow for the varying schedules of students and their families.
With over 80 colleges to meet with, the Michigan Association of College Registrars and Admissions Officers are making it easier to organize and maintain all of the information given out at College Night by using a barcode and scanner program. This tool is optional, but for those who would like to use it, visit Once printed, students can scan their barcode to easily give information digitally.
“Keep an open mind, and take time to explore options,” said Julie Button, admissions representative. “By asking questions, researching options and applying early, a student can maximize choices to further educational opportunities.”
Students should keep in mind the questions they would like to ask college representatives and compare the answers from multiple colleges to pick the school best suited for the student. Each college has strengths and weaknesses, and not every school has the same programs available. A few question topics to keep in mind include admission requirements, clubs/student activities, academic resources/scholarships available, and tuition costs.
“It’s a good opportunity for both high school students and college students,” said Gillian Drake, Student Ambassador. ”The best college [for the student] could be the unexpected one. Keep a list of schools to see before going.”
