School Daze offers a place for everyone
By Lauren Lukens
Robots, aliens, Schoolcraft staff and students will be making their way to “The Future and Beyond” on Tuesday, Sept. 16 and Wednesday, Sept. 17 for this year’s School Daze. School Daze is Schoolcraft’s recruiting fair for all of the clubs and organizations on campus, as well as local businesses.
“My favorite part is the activity on the stage. I think the minute-to-win-it games are really a lot of fun and the students get a lot out of it. They have a good time trying to win prizes meeting new friends,” said Todd Stowell, Director of Student Activities. “It’s a great opportunity for people to find their place when it comes to joining a club or organization, or to find like-minded people that are interested in those types of activities.”
Students get the opportunity to speak with club representatives, learn about student services, discover and connect with local businesses, participate in games and activities and win prizes on the main stage with a DJ.
There are 50-cent hotdogs, a Project Playhem gaming truck, pick-up volleyball, psychics, a National Guard obstacle course and Kona Ice, as well as a free photo booth, popcorn, coke products, caricature drawings and movie and Live Nation giveaways. Students also get the opportunity to register to vote with the League of Women Voters and flu shots are available from Sam’s Club.
Over 30 Student Activities Office (SAO) clubs host tables, including the Student Activities Board, Fit Club, Phi Theta Kappa, Video Production Club and the Rugby and Lacrosse teams. Student services and other on-campus organizations are also in attendance, as well as approximately 30 two-day sponsors.
Tuesday is health and wellness theme day, including tables hosted by Eye to Eye, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Save Our Youth Livonia, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), the Alzheimer’s Association, Neighborhood Service Organization (NSO), Wayne County Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner’s Program (SAFE), Wayne County Department of Health, Livonia Police, Health Quest, Compassionate Care Hospice and Sky Zone.
Wednesday is market place theme day, which comprises of Cort Furniture, Independence Green Apartments, Bravo, Jimmy Johns and Buffalo Wild Wings.
Detroit’s country radio station 99.5 WYCD is attending School Daze on Tuesday, and Channel 95.5, Detroit’s hit music station, is scheduled to appear after noon on Wednesday.
Those looking for their niche, new friends, unforgettable experiences or free stuff should stop by School Daze. Whether just looking for something fun to do or trying to kill some time between class, one will not regret stopping by.
