One of country music’s biggest superstars, Jason Aldean, has done it again. Aldean’s sixth album “Old Boots, New Dirt” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, his second album in a row to do so. The album features 15 songs, and was released Oct. 7 under Broken Bow Records, who have represented Aldean for his entire career.
The lead single off the album “Burnin’ It Down” was released in July. It hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart only a week after it debuted and was co-written by duo Florida Georgia Line. “Burnin’ It Down” is a different sound than Aldean fans are used to with its slow and smooth auto-tuned vocals. It also has less rock n’ roll elements.
The title track of the album “Old Boots, New Dirt” takes Aldean fans back to their favorite sound from the singer. It is medium tempo, with a good beat and a bit of rock n’ roll flare. Aldean sings of moving into a new town and trying to forget a lover from the past singing, “It’s good for me to look around, go down roads she’s never been down.” The song is similar to Aldean’s 2010 hit “Tattoos On This Town.”
Another great hit off the album is “Sweet Little Somethin.” The song is reminiscent of a previous hit “She’s Country.” It incorporates flirty lyrics and is perfect to dance to. Other stand out songs include “Tonight Looks Good On You” and “Gonna Know We Were Here.” “Just Gettin’ Started” has been released as the second single off the album and is gaining popularity quickly. The tune features a rock n’ roll sound, and catchy lyrics tell a story of new love.
“Old Boots, New Dirt” is titled and captured the essence of Aldean’s latest album perfectly sticking to similar sounds and subjects as his previous records. While the album is certainly not his best, as the genius of “My Kinda Party” has yet to be matched, it is still memorable.
Aldean made appearances on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and “The Today Show” the day of his album release. He is also scheduled to perform at the CMA Awards, which airs Nov. 5 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
