Phi Theta Kappa honor society to induct new members

by Chantele Fox, Staff Writer

The Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society is the most prestigious honor society serving two-colleges throughout the world and with more than 1,250 chapters internationally, they are the largest. Membership is extended by invitation only and is based upon exceptional academic achievement. Benefits include scholarships and transfer resources, personal development and career resources, and recognition for academic achievement. Furthermore, Phi Theta Kappa recognizes in each member the Four Hallmarks: Service, Leadership, Fellowship and Scholarship.

Amongst those chapters in Phi Theta Kappa is the Omicron Iota Chapter of Schoolcraft College. Omicron Iota is a Five Star Chapter which recognizes high-achieving students who strive to flourish under the influence of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society Hallmarks. Omicron Iota provides members with opportunities to develop and enhance critical leadership skills through professional development and team building, chances for service and community involvement, fellowship events and transfer scholarships which are exclusive to Phi Theta Kappa members. Moreover, Omicron Iota is dedicated to on-campus involvement throughout the semester through their yearly College Project which seeks to benefit Schoolcraft College and the community.

If you are a new member of Phi Theta Kappa and have yet to be officially inducted, then we invite you to join the officer team and chapter faculty advisors in attending the 2018 Fall Informal Induction Ceremony. During the ceremony, each new member will be recognized individually where you will light your candle, take the honor society oath and enter into the leading international honor society which serves high-achieving students. Each inductee will be presented with a certificate of induction as a keepsake of the event.

“Following the ceremony, we will be hosting a fellowship event, in addition to a brief membership meeting focusing on SignUpGenius, the remaining events on the fall quicklist and upcoming events in January,” said Carrie Ross, Vice President of Scholarships for Phi Theta Kappa. “Members of the officer team, as well as our advisors, will be present to answer any questions you have and to help any way they can. We encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to meet other members.”

Informal Induction will begin promptly at 7:00 p.m. on Dec. 5 in the Wilson Room, VisTaTech Center. Refreshments and Membership Meeting will be held in Lower Waterman of the VisTaTech Center following the ceremony. For more information about Informal Induction or to RSVP, please contact the Student Activities Office at 734-464-4422.
