The hottest new music duo, Dan + Shay, are on the rise and taking over country radio by storm. The duo consists of Pennsylvania native Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney from Arkensas. They met in Nashville, and started to collaborate musically.
In an interview with USA Today, they talked about how they started off by getting recognition from Rascal Flatts. Mooney tells USA Today, “They had, like, 12 songs by us on hold at one point; we had to pull a lot of those, because we became a duo.”
Smyers said, “When Shay and I met it was like magic.” Together they are amazing songwriters, and they are accomplishing their goal of creating songs that are timeless. Dan + Shay have created more than just great lyrics but flawless vocals and music.
Their debut single “19 You + Me” was released early October and became a huge hit. It started playing all over country radio and grabbing people’s attention with their different vocal style and captivating lyrics, giving them a new and different country sound with the way both of their voices sound together blending in with the instrumentals.  Each aspect of the song, from the lyrics to the acoustic guitar to the incredible vocals, it ties together making the song so easy to listen to. “19 You + Me” peaked at number 11 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs, and has been on the charts for 23 weeks, in addition to being at number 54 on the Billboard Hot 100 and it is still on the rise. For their first single it was impressive, considering the fact that for most bands it takes a while to get a hit song.
Following the success of their single was the April 1st release of their debut album, “Where It All Began,” which quickly made its way to number 1 on the top country albums list on iTunes. Just in time for the slowly approaching warm weather, “Where It All Began” is the perfect country album for this summer.
Some other great songs on the album that are worth listening to are “What You Do To Me,” “Show You Off,” and “First Time Feeling.” Some fans on iTunes comment saying, “Quality talent and outstanding vocals,” “Dan + Shay are going to be the next big thing,” “Superb vocals, impressive harmonies and strong lyric content.”
Without a doubt, this debut album is a sensational hit and is only the beginning for Dan + Shay.
Dan + Shay were nominated for the Academy of Country Music Award for Vocal Duo of the Year. The ACM Awards were on Sunday April 6th in Las Vegas and unfortunately they lost the award to Florida Georgia Line.
This duo is not taking any time off; they will be on back to back tours. They will be the opening act on Hunter Hayes’ “We’re Not Invisible Tour” (that began in March), in addition to playing alongside Blake Shelton this summer on his “Ten Times Crazier Tour”. You can catch Dan + Shay at the three day Faster Horses festival in Michigan starting July 18.
