Final exam study cram

With just a few weeks remaining in the semester, finals are fast approaching. Since final exams can cause a lot of confusion and unwanted stress, the Learning Assistance Center (LAC) provides students with a special opportunity each semester, known as Exam-A-Rama.
“Exam-A-Rama started in the 90s, when I was a tutor here, we’ve been doing this for many years and have a 99% student success rating, and what that says is that every single student that goes says it is valuable and has helped them prepare for their final exam,” said Terri Lamb, a Mathematics Learning Specialist and the tutor program coordinator.
Exam-A-Rama is composed of several different review sessions from all math classes offered, chemistry, physics, biology and accounting. Each four hour session is run by tutors who are well versed in the subject.
Many of the sessions are for exam packet review. Students should try their best to complete the packets prior to their visit to the LAC. Then, during the review session, the tutor will go over the most challenging questions of the packet and help students to succeed using various tips and tricks that students can rely on during their actual exam.
“I always say have your textbook with you. You paid a lot of money for it, so you might as well get the most use out of it, there is usually always an example to back it [a problem] up,” said Clinton Randall, an accounting and economics tutor. “Try to find students in your class, because more likely than not, they know something you don’t know and vice versa. It’s kind of like piecing together a puzzle, you hold this piece and they hold that piece and when you come together usually you can figure it out.”
The review sessions take place from April 22 to the 25, and while each review begins at the scheduled start time, students can come and go as they like, however check-in time for each session begins 30 minutes before each one.
The LAC is located in the Bradner Library, room L 119, and the normal hours are Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. Some of the review sessions extend to midnight, however. For more information call 734-462-4436.
