The dead walk again

“The Walking Dead” returns Oct. 23

Starting late this month, football won’t be the only thing families gather around the TV to watch. Oct. 23 marks the return of the cult classic “The Walking Dead” directed by Robert Kirkman. Over the past six years, families all over the world have tuned in to AMC to watch their favorite characters such as Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus), Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) and many more. However this year, there may be one less familiar face in the group.
When the show first began back in 2010 audiences were introduced to Rick Grimes, a former cop who had woken up from a coma in the new post apocalyptic world filled with reanimated dead bodies. Soon Rick would find himself fighting off the living and the dead, as he would lead his group to broader horizons. However, the group would come to realize that the dead wasn’t all there was to fear in the new world.
Over the course of the series Rick and his group would find what seemed to be like sanctuary throughout the southern United States to hide from the dangers that lurked outside. Yet it seemed as if the danger always knew how to find them. Zombies were not the only things people had to fear in the wasteland. Cannibalistic groups, hunger, disease and even a crazed madman with an eye patch named “The Governor” who was obsessed with destroying Rick’s group. Nonetheless, Rick and his followers always seemed to narrowly avoid extinction, but not without some losses of loved ones along the way.

On the previous season of “The Walking Dead” we found Rick and his group living in a compound called Sanctuary. Sanctuary seemed like the best place in a long time for the survivors to call home, even though domestic troubles lied within the walls. After Rick claimed himself leader of the newly found oasis, problems soon began to find their way into the lives of the survivors. Between invaders, hoards of undead and supplies running low, Rick needed to find solutions. Once Sanctuary’s walls were fortified, the next issue was supplies, so Rick and select others set out to establish trade with neighboring camp.
Upon entering the camp, Rick and his group came to an agreement with the camp’s leader; if they were to establish trade then another group lead by someone named Negan would have to be eliminated. After Rick accepted the task, him and his group set off to find where Negan called home. However, while on the road Negan had his own plan. Luring Rick and his group into a trap, Negan and his gang cornered and beat them mercilessly. Season 6 ended with him holding a barbed wire bat playing “Eenie Meanie Minie Moe” to see which member of Rick’s group he would kill.
The last image audiences all around the world saw was the scene of Negan about to strike an unknown character. Who will it be? Will it be Daryl Dixon, Rick Grimes, Carl Grimes, Glenn Rhee or one of the other survivors? Tune into AMC on Oct. 23 at 10 pm to see what the fate of the group will be.
