The Schoolcraft Mens Basketball team won their fifth straight conference game the night of Wednesday, Jan. 21, holding off a late second half surge from Mott Community College for a 67-60 victory.

Four Ocelots were in double figures, but no one on the team managed to score more than 14 points. Freshman guard Ronald Booth shot 5-11 for 14 points, sophomore forward Javon Thomas scored 13 to go along with six boards and freshman forward Anthony Wartley-Fritz had 11 points and six boards. Freshman guard Marcus Williams also had 10 points and a team high eight rebounds.

Coming off of a 33 point performance against Henry Ford, Ja’Christian Biles was held to just eight points after getting into foul trouble early in the game.

The Ocelots set the pace of the game in the first half as all of head coach Abe Mashhour’s players were buzzing up and down the court and at times completely dominated the Bears. Schoolcraft came out shooting well too, and rode their successes from the floor to a 36-23 halftime lead.

The second half saw sloppier play from the Ocelots, who began struggling at times with their shots while Mott slowly inched back into the game. The Bears began fouling to conserve clock, and the Ocelots were able to sink many clutch free throw in order to seal the win.

The win bumped Schoolcraft into a tie with Oakland Community College atop the standings in the MCCAA Eastern Conference and improved their record to 16-3 (5-1 conference).

Now ranked eighth in the country, the Ocelots will have the weekend off before returning to the court on Monday, Jan. 26 on the road at Delta Community College. They then will host St. Clair County Community College in the annual Pink Zone game to support breast cancer awareness on Wednesday, Jan. 28 at 7:30 p.m.
