In a world driven by the latest discoveries and advancement in tech, many students see science, technology, engineering and mathematics as the way to a successful career. However, they may forget just how important the humanities are for bringing the results of STEM to the forefront.
That is why Schoolcraft Learning Support Services, Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society (PTK) and the Honors Scholar Program invite students, alumni, faculty and community members to attend STEAMz Schoolcraft on March 27 from 1 to 6 p.m., in W210, located in the VisTaTech Center.
These groups hope to provide students the opportunity to build their resume and present any topic that bridges these areas. In addition, Schoolcraft College President, Dr. Conway A. Jeffress, will be the inaugural keynote speaker to answer questions and provide his own insight into how these categories combine and can assist those coming into the workforce.
“One of the main goals of the conference is to allow crossover between the art and sciences in order to facilitate creativity in problem-solving in the minds of students, who also get to learn and connect with like-minded peers,” states Academic Success Coach in Writing, Kayla McKinney.
Students submitted proposals Feb. 6 for this event and were notified whether or not they were one of those chosen to give a presentation. Those who weren’t chosen to speak will have posters and exhibitions of different artworks on display to showcase their efforts and creativity as well.
“I personally believe that the separation of disciplines is dangerous. Too often are we not allowed to step outside the box when it comes to solving issues? The theme, ‘Bridging the Arts, Humanities and Sciences,’ is what sets this conference apart from others,” McKinney continued.
