Students, staff, faculty and community members gathered to celebrate the Hindu festival Navarati Garba on October 4th from 7 p.m. to midnight in the VisTaTech Center.
In an evening filled with food, dance and music, Navarati Garba is a 9-day fall celebration that honors Goddess Durga, who symbolizes power and purity, according to New Delhi Television Limited.
Schoolcraft began hosting this event ten years ago. It has grown from 60 people in its first year to approximately 800 people this year.
“We’ve literally recreated India here,” said faculty advisor for the Asian Student Association, Professor Archana Maheshwari.
Not only was a fully catered Indian Dinner offered, but multiple booths sold various Indian clothing and jewelry. There was also live music provided by Kuldip Bhatt, dancing and prizes for ‘the best dressed,’ and ‘best dancer.’
