The Asian Student Association hosted its first Diwali Celebration Nov. 2 in the VisTaTech Center.
Diwali, a “festival of lights” is celebrated by followers of Hindu, Sikh and Jain religions to celebrate the triumph good over evil. The Schoolcraft Diwali celebration was open to the community and people of many different cultures attended.
For $15 per person, guests enjoyed a traditional catered Indian Dinner, a show with Indian musicians and dancers and an explanation of the origins of Diwali. After the show, dinner was served and there was an opportunity for guests to show their moves off on the dance floor. The celebration continued late into the night, and the smiles on guests’ faces were evidence of their enjoyment.
The event hit its max capacity this year and next year the celebration will be moved to the DiPonio room to better accommodate the demand.
