Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced June 1 that the stay-at-home order would be lifted earlier than initially planned.
After being extended from May 28 to June 12, expectations of reopening the state anytime soon were low.
The state-wide stay-at-home order went into effect March 24, barring any services deemed nonessential from continuing to operate unless they could comply with social distancing guidelines. Now the entire state is moving into phase 4 of the reopening plan, allowing for many businesses to open up while maintaining strict safety protocol.
Companies that can work remotely must continue to do so for the time being. While restaurants and bars resume in-house service starting June 8 but are required to keep capacity at 50 percent or less. Libraries, museums and retail stores will also be allowed to open next Monday as well, following similar restrictions.
While some services will be open for business once again, barbershop and salons, indoor theaters and gyms are to remain closed during this time. Outdoor fitness activities and gatherings of up to 100 individuals are allowed to resume immediately as long as social distancing is practiced.
Phase 4 will be implemented throughout June, with hopes that the entire state will begin phase 5 by July 4.
