Meet the Candidates: Dr. Glenn Cerny
A closer look at the Presidential candidates

For more than three decades, Dr. Glenn Cerny has worked in higher education. From adjunct faculty to his current role as Schoolcraft’s Vice President and Chief Financial Officer where he has served for the past 10 years, Dr. Cerny has a laundry list of achievements. Now he seeks to add to that list by serving the college in the president’s role.
Education
Dr. Cerny obtained his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting and Finance at Michigan University back in the early ’80s. He would return to university again in the early ‘90s to obtain a Masters. More specifically, He obtained his Masters in Business Administration in Finance and Strategic Planning from Eastern Michigan University. He recently obtained his Doctorate of Education in Community College Leadership in 2016 from Ferris State University.
Work Experience
Dr. Cerny started his career advising colleges and hospitals at Arthur Anderson & Co. in Detroit, eventually moving on to work in higher education.
At Michigan University, he served as an administrative manager overseeing millions of dollars in renovations and construction. Helping aid in the creation of the university’s Facility Management Information System used in long-term planning, Dr. Cerny worked for the University for just over a decade before moving onto Spring Arbor University and subsequently Lansing Community College (LCC).
Dr. Cerny worked as an adjunct faculty at both colleges before moving up to an administrative position at LCC. He served in the role of Vice President & Chief Financial/Information Officer there for around eight years, assisting them in accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission and getting a mileage passed to help create a long-term revenue stream.
He would go on to work at Western Governors University (WGU) in Salt Lake City, Utah. Serving the university as the Vice President & Chief Technology Officer, he aided in the development and expansion of the online school. He worked with WGU for two years before returning to Michigan.
The last position he held before working for Schoolcraft was at North Central Michigan College (NCMC). There Dr. Cerny worked as the Dean of Academic & Administrative Technologies and helped update the college’s technology and services. He also worked with its Board of Trustees and aided in financial planning to help NCMC grow. After serving in that role for three years, Dr. Cerny came to Schoolcraft to serve the college in the role of Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.
Dr. Cerny has helped the college in innumerous ways. Helping increase revenue streams to aid in program expansions via the 2018 Milage and the six 501(c)(3)(4) Organizations, which have nearly tripled since their initial investment by the college. Other Roles
Dr. Cerny has served in roles beyond his day job. At the Michigan Community College Risk Management Authority he served as Secretary from 2015 to 2019 and from 2019 to present he serves as their Treasurer. Starting back in 2019, Dr. Cerny served the Michigan International Technology Center Redevelopment Authority as the committee’s Treasurer. He also serves as the president of the six aforementioned 501(c)(3)(4) Organizations, each functioning with their own board.

Dr. Cerny is among the final three candidates looking to fill the role that Dr. Conway Jeffress has filled for the past four decades. All three candidates are scheduled to hold “Meet the Candidate” interviews open to community members, students, faculty and staff as a way to interact with and offer their comments on the college’s next president.
