Men’s Basketball

After a restful holiday break the Ocelots were looking forward to being back in action to start the second half of the season on the road. Unfortunately, the team had to wait, as their first two games against #4 ranked Mott (Jan. 3) and Wayne County Community College (Jan. 5.) were postponed.

 

Jan. 8

Delta College (85) at Schoolcraft College (88)

The team was finally able to hit the court on Jan. 8 against the visiting Delta College Pioneers and pulled out its first win of the new year, 85-88. Keionte Cornelius led the Ocelots with 32 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Jamoni Jones had 23 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists. Cedric Givens had 13 points, 5 rebounds, and 1 assist.

 

Jan. 10

Schoolcraft College (61) at Mott Community College (80)

The #4 ranked Mott Bears showed why they are in the top five of the country as they dominated the court against the Ocelots Jan. 10 in Flint. Mott ended the first half with a 40-25 lead and never looked back handing the Ocelots a 61-80 loss.

Keionte Cornelius led the Ocelots with 20 points followed by Jamoni Jones with 15. Aldophus Cast had 6 assists.

 

Jan 12

Oakland CC (73) at Schoolcraft College (68)

In at tight matchup, the Ocelots found themselves just five point short of a victory Jan. 12 against Oakland CC. Missed opportunities is what prevented the team from claiming a victory.

Jamoni Jones led the Ocelots with 24 points, followed by Keionte Cornelius with 20. Ashton Nance let the team with 13 rebounds.

 

Jan. 17

Schoolcraft College (72) at Wayne County Community College (79)

The Ocelots dropped their third straight game on Jan.17 to WCCC 72-79. Despite double digits scoring by Keionte Cornelius (29)and Aston Nance (20) the Ocelots couldn’t overcome the point deficit against the Wildcats.

 

Jan. 22

Schoolcraft College (62) at #13- Macomb Community College (105)

The #13 ranked Macomb Monarchs handed the Ocelots their fourth straight loss, 62-105 on Jan. 22. Noteable scorers for theOcelots were Keionte Cornelius (24) and Shayne Scruggs (12). Scruggs also had 8 rebounds in the effort.

 

As of Jan. 23, the Ocelots are 1-4 in the conference and 4-11 overall. The team is in eighth place in the Michigan CommunityCollege Athletic Association Eastern Conference.

Women’s Basketball

Just as the Men’s team, the Women’s team started the second half of the season with two postponed games. First, Mott CC on Jan 3 and then Wayne County CC on Jan. 5.

 

Jan. 8

Delta College (60) at Schoolcraft College (70)

On Saturday, Jan 8 the team finally returned to action and faced Delta College at home where they pulled out a 10 point victory over the Pioneers, 60-70. The third quarter was the difference maker to clinch the win for the Ocelots as they scored 28 points that quarter. Top scorers for the game were Heaven Rogers (21), Samantha Smith (10) and Alicia Ortiz (10). Rogers also had 15 rebounds.

 

Jan. 10

Schoolcraft College (60) at Mott Community College (62)

The Ocelots travelled to Flint on Jan.10 to face the Bears after their game got postponed a week prior. The team fought hard but despite a fourth quarter rally came up short and lost by two points, 60-62. Notable players of the game were Maikaya Thomas who scored 18 points, 5 assists and 3 rebounds. Ruby Garner had 13 points and 8 rebounds.

 

Jan 17

Schoolcraft College (69) at Wayne County Community College (82)

The team hit the road to face Wayne County CC on Jan 17 and hit a double digit loss against the Wildcats, 69-82. Four Ocelots had double digit points, Justina Szalkowski (14) Alicia Ortiz (13) Sequoia Jackson (11) and Maikaya Thomas (10). Jasmine Ellis had 3 rebounds.

 

Jan. 22

Schoolcraft College (60) at Macomb Community College (50)

The road trips continued for the Ocelots as they travelled to Macomb to face the Monarchs Jan. 22. The first quarter proved to be a tight matchup as both teams were tied 12-12. The Ocelots outpaced the Monarchs during the third and fourth quarter and sealed the win, 60-50. Top three scorers in the game were Justina Szalkowski and Ruby Garner (11) Heaven Rogers (10). Samantha Smith had 11 rebounds.

As of January 23, the Women’s Basketball team is currently ranked fourth in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association Eastern Conference standings with a record of 3-2 in the conference and 8-4 overall.

 

The Ocelots have six remaining home games in the regular season. The dates and times are as follows:

Saturday, January 29 at 1 p.m. against Mott

Monday, January 31 at 5:30 p.m. against Oakland CC

Wednesday, February 2 at 5:30 p.m. against Wayne County CC

Saturday, February 12 at 1 p.m. against Henry Ford

Saturday, February 19 at 1 p.m. against Macomb

Wednesday, February 23 at 5:30 p.m. against Alpena

Women’s Bowling

On Jan. 7 Kaylee Schoffler won the overall title at the Wayne County CCD Invitational at Oak Lanes in Westland. Schoffler shot a 479 series to finish three pins ahead of Hallie Weaver of Mid Michigan College. Schoffler shot a 198 in her third game of the event. Other notable mentions for the Ocelots are Julie Swartz who placed 7th with 451 and Allison Little with 442 and finished 10th. Schoffler was also awarded MCCAA Eastern Conference Women’s Bowler of the Week for Jan. 10.

The Ocelots are currently in third place in the Eastern Conference standings as of Jan. 23. Just eight points behind leading Mid Michigan College.

 

Men’s Bowling

On Jan. 14 the Men’s Bowling team placed second at the Muskegon CC Invitational with a team total 4222 pins. Notable mention goes to Erik Bunge who placed fifth at the invitational with 593 in the series.

On Jan. 21 the team placed second at the Kirkland Invitational in West Branch, Michigan with a total of 4121.

The Ocelots are currently in third place in the Eastern Conference standings as of Jan. 23.
