On a damp and rainy afternoon, the Ocelots pushed their winning streak to six games with a 11-1 victory over visiting Ancilla on Sept. 27.
Ancilla got on the scoreboard first at the 5th minute by Santiago Morales.
The Ocelots kept up the pressure and tied the game 1-1 at the 10th minute by a goal by defender Ethan Walker, assisted by midfielder Gavin Brose.
Brose took matters into his own hands and scored at the 25th minute, with assists from midfielders Abed Swidan and Kellen Larson making it 2-1.
In a span of four minutes the team took a 4-1 lead with goals by forward Dante Davidson (scoring his first of three goals at the 27th minute) with an assist from midfielder Dominic Maisano and shortly after Larson (29th minute) with Brose there to assist.
Defender Billy Bingham noted, “After they (Marian University’s Ancilla) scored, it was a big wake up call for our team.”
The Ocelots held on to their 4-1 lead at the half and the gloomy overcast skies gave way to sprinkles. Two minutes into the start of the second half, Brose scored his second goal of the game at the 47th minute with an assist from Larson.
The skies opened up and the rain became more steady. The team pushed to get the ball in the back of the net and keep possession as long as possible despite the tricky conditions.
At the 49th minute defender Connor Shennan scored a goal with an assist from forward Gavin LaMere. A minute later, Davidson scored his second goal of the game at the 50th minute with an assist from Shennan.
Schoolcraft led 7-1 with 40 minutes left in the second half.
A flurry of goals continued for the Ocelots offense. Davison shined again with his third goal at the 53rd minute, assisted by Brose. Tommy Mittelstadt scored at the 56th minute with an assist by Davidson. Four minutes later at the 60th minute, Mittelstadt scores his second goal with an assist from Shennan.
Just over 30 minutes left in the second half, the Ocelots held a 10-1 lead. The last goal of the game went to Brose who scored his third goal of the game, at the 70th minute and was assisted by Larson.
“After halftime we got a good pep talk from the coach and things started to turn around for us,” said Brose.
The men collectively agreed that Ancilla’s first goal was a necessary wake up call, and were able to motivate the Ocelots to take over the game.
“First half was a little rough but second half we came out and really took control of the game,” said goalkeeper Brendan Ware.
Rain or shine the boys still conquer, leading themselves to another victory. The team outshot Ancilla 27-2. Brendan Ware and Vedad Vila split time in the net to secure the win.
The Ocelots are now ranked 9-2 overall and 5-1 in conference play.
