For the third consecutive year, The Schoolcraft Men’s Soccer Team were crowned the Region XII Division II Men’s Soccer Champions.
The Ocelots defeated the St. Clair Community College Skippers, 2-1 on Nov. 3 at Skippers Field in Marysville, Michigan to capture the title.
The team played a heavy-hitting game in the first half. At the 5:30 mark, freshman forward Adriano Shauya scored the first goal of the game, with a remarkable assist by Nino Schembri.
Just over twelve minutes of play continued before Sophomore defenseman Billy Bingham scored at the 17:07 mark, with an assist by Nikolas Nareike.
Down by two, the Skippers came firing back and St. Clairs Gabriel Raji scored two minutes later at the 19:07 mark, with an assist from Javier Garcia Tunon Perez, making it 2-1.
Both teams played back and forth in the second half, with neither team scoring, giving the Ocelots the 2-1 victory at the end of 90 minutes, crowning the Ocelots Region XII Division II Men’s Soccer Champions.
During the game, the St. Clair Skippers accumulated a total of 7 yellow cards, with 2 red cards handed out to forward attacker Doui Chris Goumba and defensive back Gabriele Catterina. The Ocelots received a total of 6 yellow cards, with 1 red card to midfielder Dominic Maisano.
The Skippers took 17 shots in total, with 9 shots on target. The Ocelots took 23 shots in total, with 15 shots on target.
For the Skippers, their goalkeeper Jaden Gil saved a total of 13 opportunities, while the Ocelots goalkeeper Alexander Heitsch saved 8 opportunities.

The Ocelots played their Region XII Division II Tournament – Semifinal match on Saturday, Nov. 2 against Marian University’s Ancilla. The Ocelots picked apart Ancilla’s defense, shutting them down with a score of 3-0.
The first half of the game was deadlocked on both ends of the field, with a score of 0-0.
The first goal was scored by Ziad Barakat, who scored in the 75th minute. The second goal would be scored by Pablo Martin in the 81st minute. The third goal was scored by Nino Schembri in the 82nd minute, putting the nail on the coffin. 3-0.
During the game, the Marian University’s Ancillas accumulated a total of 4 yellow cards, with 1 red card going to Victor Rodriguez. The Schoolcraft Ocelots only received 2 yellow cards, and no red card handed out. The Ancillas could only make out 3 shots, and with only 2 of them on target. The Ocelots dominated the field with a total of 23 shots, 17 of them on target.
For the goalkeepers, Ancilla’s Trent Platz saved a total of 14 opportunities, while the Ocelot’s Fredi Mece saved 2 opportunities and captured the shutout.
Next up for the Ocelots is Districts. Schoolcraft will travel to Mercer County Community College (NJ) this week for a chance to punch their ticket to another National Tournament appearance on Friday, Nov. 8 with a kickoff at 5:00 p.m. ET.
