“The Wolf Among Us” pulls the players into a dark, twisted world of familiar fairy tale characters, such as Snow White from Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs voiced by Erin Yvette. Colin the pig from The Three Little Pigs voiced by Brian Sommer. Belle from Beauty and Beast voiced by Melissa Hutchison and Beast voiced by Gravin Hammon.
From the moment the player steps into Fabletown, the player will notice the stunning noir graphics, set up the tone of a gripping and often said by players a brutal journey.
Telltale Games, the creators behind this jaw-dropping game, deliver a masterclass in storytelling. Blending interactive elements with cinematic choices that will challenge every choice the player makes throughout the game. The game starts by showing the main character, Sheriff Bigby, voiced by Adam Harrington, as the protector of Fabletown.
The player can notice by looking at Bigby that he is wearing a white dress shirt with a loose tie that is not tied up all the way. While looking the player can see the noir atmosphere and graphics of New York City showing the shadows and shading of the city being more like a comic-book style. When getting out of a taxi, you will enter an old, withered apartment across from them. Upon entering the apartment complex they will be greeted by a ragged clothed frog.
Mr. Toad, voiced by Chuck Kourouklis, is the fable that contacts you about the problem. Something to notice about Toad is that he is not a human, this is because he is not wearing glamour to hint that he is a fable. Glamour is a spell that allows characters to change their appearance, allowing them to pass through mundies which are non-fable people. While talking to Toad the player is given four different choices that can impact the story, and affect your relationship with him, these choices can affect your relationship with other characters that you will meet along the way.
Mechanics within the game are quick-time events where the player must click a button repeatedly or click on a button that shows up to make an action.
The game not only has interesting game mechanics, but it’s also a fascinating story. Players dive into investigating and uncovering a killer that has been killing fables.
What’s unique about the story is that it’s split into five episodes. This unique storytelling will leave gamers on a cliffhanger after every episode. Allowing the setting up for the plot for the next episode. However, it leaves you questioning what will happen next!
Overall, The Wolf Among Us delivers a gripping, dark narrative that will keep the players hooked from start to finish. With its marvelous storytelling and strong character development that the player will experience, it will be hard to pass up this game when you are trying to find out what to play next.
