Pass through your portkey into Harry Potter’s fascinating fourth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, in the unforgettable film “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.”
“Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” was ingeniously directed by Mike Newell and released on Nov. 18, 2005. It resumes the story of Harry Potter, played by actor Daniel Radcliffe, as he experiences three new historical wizarding events; the Quidditch World Cup, the Triwizard Tournament and another eerie battle with the Dark Lord.
The film opens with Potter having a foreshadowing nightmare of the Dark Lord being involved in the murder of a muggle caretaker, while staying with his old friend Ron Weasley who is played by actor Rupert Grint. Potter and the Wesley family travel with Hermione Granger, played by actress Emma Watson, and new friends through a portkey with delightful new friends to experience the magnificent Quidditch World Cup. During the celebrations after the match, a horrific turn of events unfolds as The Dark Lord’s followers attack and leave Potter and his friends’ encampment scorched with cryptic clues into the wizarding war at hand.
Upon returning to Hogwarts, students are informed that Hogwarts will host the intensely treacherous Triwizard Tournament along with students from the other two competing schools. To enter, a student must be seventeen years old or above to sign their name on a piece of parchment and throw it into the magically secured Goblet of Fire. If chosen, the student becomes bound by a magical contract to compete.
Harrowing mysteries begin to take hold when Potter, who is under the legal age to enter, becomes chosen after his name flies out of the Goblet of Fire as the last champion. His quest as a Triwizard champion includes the dangerous tasks of collecting a golden egg that is being guarded by a fervent dragon, rescuing a loved one from sneaky and vicious merpeople at the bottom of the black lake and completing a bewitched maze that holds the Triwizard Cup. After completion, Potter is transported into a graveyard where he battles with actor Ralph Fiennes as the Dark Lord Voldemort. Many key mysteries are solved, while others start to bloom and leave room for a sequel.
One of the best scenes in this film, and arguably of all time, is the Quidditch World Cup. Sporting spectacular special effects included in the fireworks and flying broom smoke tails, this scene is sure to captivate viewers with its entrancing effects. Additionally, the incredible Yule Ball scene is nothing short of magical. It features a lustrous silver makeover to the Hogwarts Great Hall, creative and catchy music, heartwarming moments and enchanting attire.
This motion picture features several moments of comedic relief, from friendly character banter to dance practice with Weasley and actress Dame Maggie Smith as Professor McGonagall. Furthermore, it presents a lesson about false accusations through Weasley’s false accusation of Potter of putting his own name into the Goblet of Fire, as well as darker lessons about the consequences of murder and identity theft.
“Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” is a champion itself, earning a solid ten out of ten stars! This film will take viewers on a magical journey of a powerful story that contains remarkable special effects, relatable characters and moments, an iconic soundtrack and wonderful world to vacation in. There is no time to waste, prepare your cauldrons and embark on year 4 of the enthralling Harry Potter series!
