The story continues to document the journey of Harry Potter, played by actor Daniel Radcliffe, as a young wizard whose destiny is to defeat the Dark Lord.
With a wizarding war brewing, “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” features a riveting and ruinous opening of Death Eaters destroying Diagon Alley and kidnapping a legendary wandmaker. Potter and his fellow students soon arrive at Hogwarts where they are met with several changes, including actor Jim Broadbent as new potions professor Horace Slughorn.
The plot thickens when Potter takes Professor Slughorn’s class and discovers that his textbook previously belonged to the mysterious Half-Blood Prince. Potter uses this book to his advantage, while interpreting the mysteries that stem from it.
The story takes an unfortunate turn when Death Eaters attack and destroy the Weasley family’s home, just as Potter learns key information about the Malfoy family. Shortly after, he is assigned the grueling task of retrieving a memory from Professor Slughorn. A memory that holds key information about The Dark Lord’s past. Problems quickly arise with actor Rupert Grint as Potter’s friend Ron Weasley, coincidentally granting Potter’s success in Dumbledore’s quest.
Upon analysis of the retrieved memory, Potter embarks on a menacing endeavor with Dumbledore to find and destroy the next Horcrux; an object that holds part of the Dark Lord’s soul. A battle with the Dark Lord soon erupts, leaving the wizarding world to cope with another tragic loss as the wizarding war continues. The film closes with Potter vowing to continue his journey of defeating the Dark Lord, insinuating another sequel.
“Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” is a stupendous and suspenseful addition to the Harry Potter film franchise, adding intense depth to a mesmerizing story. It features several subplots that include the complicated love-lives of Weasley and Potter, as well as insight into the life of actor Tom Felton as Draco Malfoy.
This film sports several incredible action scenes, with Potter facing several duels that entrance viewers through accentuated darker lighting that captures much of the film. Specifically, fans will remember the final duel as amazing special effects depict Professor Dumbledore’s protective ring of fire. It also features impeccable acting, notably by Felton. His intricate portrayal of Malfoy expertly depicted the character’s powerful internal conflicts, opening the door for fans to develop a deeper understanding of him.
