The Schoolcraft women’s soccer team needed just 12 minutes to secure a dominant 3-0 victory against Kellogg Community College on Sept. 24. A lightning-fast offensive at the start of the first half was enough to seal the score, maintaining it until the final whistle.
It is worth noting that last year Kellogg’s team defeated the Ocelots on penalties in the regional semi-final, qualifying for the final, where they were crowned champions, winning the game against the Jackson Community College team.
In another match against them, the story of the game was different.
The Ocelots opened the scoring early, at the six minute mark, with a goal from Ella Vandermegel following a precise pass from Raina Lutz.
The pressure didn’t stop. Just two minutes later, at the eight minute mark, Jessica Clyde scored her goal. To finish the early blitz, at 12 minutes, a play created by Naomi Bongero and Clyde resulted in the goal by Brianna Murphy, sealing the final 3-0 score.
In the first half, the Ocelots’ dominance was evident, with 10 shots on goal, resulting in the 3 converted. The Bruins had only one chance to score, which they missed.
The second half was highlighted by an excellent performance from the Bruins goalkeeper, Taylor Havilar. Out of the 12 shots from the Ocelots, she showed great presence, saving the 6 that were on target. On the other side, Ocelots goalkeeper Elaina Hassan had a quiet game, recording the team’s only save of the match, ensuring the clean sheet and the victory.
The Ocelots are now 6-2 on the season and a perfect 3-0 in the conference with a flawless campaign and zero goals conceded. Schoolcraft will hit the road next Wed, Oct. 01, for a 1 p.m. game at Jackson College.
