Test for success

Testing Center reopens after COVID-19 hiatus

Test+for+success

Ben Bolstrum, Campus Life Editor

After its recent shutdown, Schoolcraft’s Testing Center is now reopening for in person, on campus placement testing.
Testing is by appointment only and can be scheduled by email or phone. After scheduling a testing date, students will receive an email within 1-2 business days from [email protected]. This will serve as an instructional guide for what to do next as well as provide the student with an admission ticket. It is recommended that students speak to their Academic Advisor before test taking which can be done by scheduling a remote meeting through 734-462-4429. A photo ID and Schoolcraft student number are required to receive and take any test.
The placement test measures a student’s prowess in English, Mathematics and Reading. Scores will be indicative of a student’s base knowledge in each subject with each initial test being free and consecutive test retakes will cost $5 per category.
Students will have 2 ½ hours to complete their work, but rest assured, this test cannot be failed. It is simply a measure of where a student will start their course sequence toward their degree.
Students should be aware that it is mandatory for those new or incoming to Schoolcraft. Students must complete a placement test or submit their ACT or SAT scores before signing up for classes.
Test of Essential Academics Skills (TEAS)
In addition to placement testing, the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) for the nursing program is available through remote delivery. The TEAS is an exam created for students entering the health science field. Students are given 209 minutes to complete 170 multiple-choice questions.
There are 53 Reading and Science questions to be completed within 64 and 63 minutes respectively, 36 Math questions to be completed in 54 minutes as well as 28 English and language usage questions to be completed in 28 minutes.
On campus proctoring is not available at this time due to COVID-19, but the test may be taken remotely for a fee of $115 Friday, June 19 or Friday, June 26, at 1 p.m. Please note that the date must be reserved in advance.
