Schoolcraft Foundation offering scholarships for spring/summer semesters

Ben Bolstrum, Staff Writer

Beginning this spring and summer semester, the Schoolcraft College Foundation will be offering a new, one-time-only scholarship opportunity for Distance Learning as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic which has interrupted the campus’s normal functions.
This fund began with $50,000 and had an additional $118,000 added soon after. Each student will be awarded up to $500 for spring and summer Distance Learning courses which recently opened for registration March 28. In addition to this scholarship opportunity, the three-day deadline to pay for classes after registration is also being waived until further notice.
“We hope these scholarships will encourage students to continue their education and take online
classes,” Executive Director of Schoolcraft College Foundation and Alumni Relations, Dawn Magretta stated. “The mission of the Schoolcraft Foundation is to provide support to the college and its students. In unprecedented times like these, support like this initiative becomes even more important to our students.”
Magretta continued to explain some of the mechanics behind implementing this scholarship by saying, “Because of donations to our greatest needs fund and our general scholarship fund, we are able to quickly meet some of the immediate needs of the college and our students. These funds are made possible because of gifts of all sizes that, together, make a significant impact. Another example of every gift making a difference is the recently announced Computer Loan Program through the Hinkle Centers funded through the Schoolcraft Foundation’s Student Emergency Needs Fund to provide students with laptops needed for distance learning.”
There’s still time for students to register for spring and summer courses, so don’t miss out on this opportunity.
