Getting by as a student can be a difficult task when juggling the responsibilities of a job on top of schoolwork. Schoolcraft College Career Services recognizes this challenge and will be hosting a Student Employment Open House event Aug. 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the McDowell Student Center, room 123.

“Students will have the opportunity to talk with Career Services staff to learn about the benefits of student employment on campus, the openings we have on campus, and will be able to apply and even “pre-interview” for campus jobs,” explains Director of Career Services JoAnne Stadnicar. “And, of course, we’ll have refreshments, so if anyone is hungry, we will have some great snacks!”

This is the perfect opportunity for any student who is registered for six or more credit hours for the fall semester to stimulate their campus lives by caring for their education along with their wallets. Several student workers employed by Schoolcraft will be available to explain the benefits of their job to potential hires. Employees will be ready to answer any questions about the hiring process, available jobs, responsibilities, pay and much more for enquiring job searchers.

“Working at Schoolcraft’s Learning Center has been incredibly fulfilling as there’s a very friendly and understanding atmosphere there,” explains Schoolcraft student employee Vae O’Neil. “I’ve learned a bit about Schoolcraft’s resources as a side effect, and it helps a bunch that it’s located right on campus.”

Stadnicar hopes attendees have a similar experience to O’Neil. She believes that the Open House will showcase the benefits of campus jobs and why they are lucrative to students. She also aims to streamline the process by having Applications available to be filled out during the event.

Student employment is an opportunity to learn essential employment skills such as teamwork, effective communication, organization and critical thinking, all while attending classes. This provides a convenient option that allows students to work while upholding their commitment to academic success.
