Originally the Eloise Asylum was Michigan’s former poorhouse, mental hospital, and farm. It is located at 30712 Michigan Ave, Westland, MI 48186. The 900 acres of land opened in the 1830s and closed its doors in the early 1980s. The closing occurred after a large quantity of negative reports and accusations were made on behalf of the asylum. Reports included on-site murders, rapes, and damaging medical procedures. The remaining architecture and surrounding land of Eloise’s former mental hospital is said to be extremely haunted. Unfortunately, lots of patients passed away of disease (including Tuberculosis), infection, exposure and suicide.

You can now visit the remaining 4-story building of Eloise. It offers a variety of attractions including a haunted house, escape room and ghost tours. The haunted house is open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Haunted ghost tours and escape room reservations must be made in advance. You can do so by visiting www.eloiseasylum.com. Updates and details can be found on the Eloise Asylum Instagram, www.instagram.com/eloise.asylum.
