DETROIT, MI – The Ocelots squared off against the Mott Bears as the away team at the Corner Ballpark due to field conditions at the home of the Bears, Kearsley Park.
It could not have been a better start for Schoolcraft. As the away team, in the top of the 1st, the Ocelots were able to jump out to a 2-0 lead thanks to RBI singles from Owen Elsey and Tyler Allos. The Ocelots were threatening to score more that inning before Mott was able to escape bases loaded with 1 out by getting Schoolcraft to ground into a double play. Shutdown innings have been a struggle at times for Schoolcraft, but not today, starter Michael Moore would get a quick 1-2-3 inning to hold onto that 2-0 after 1 inning of play. The 2nd inning would go the same, Schoolcraft would score 2 more runs, both coming in off the bat of Elsey, before shutting down the Bears in the bottom half. Moore would wind up cruising through the first 3 innings of the game. A switch would flip in the 4th inning. With hitting only 2 balls to the outfield in the 4th inning, Mott would find a way to plate 4 runs to draw the game even after the 4th inning. Things would get away from Schoolcraft from there. During the next 2 innings, Mott would score 13 runs on their way to a 17-5 victory. The last Schoolcraft run would come in to score on a balk but the Mott pitcher.
Schoolcraft will turn to Wednesday as they look for their first conference win when they hit the road to Port Huron to take on the Skippers from St. Clair County Community College (3-9, 0-2).
