DETROIT, MI – The Ocelots hosted the Skippers for the first 2 games of their weekend series.
Game 1 – With only registering 7 hits, Schoolcraft would find a way to plate 8 runs, more than enough to earn the win in game 1. Owen Elsey and Dalton Vance paced the offense, each registering 2 hits. Sawyer Pace would drive in 3 runs while adding a hit. On the mound, Philip Miller got the start and would go 6 innings. Over his 6 innings, he would allow just 2 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits while striking out 10 batters. Dominic Westfall would come into the game and pitch a scoreless 7th inning while allowing 1 hit and strike out 1 batter.
Game 2 – Going into the bottom of the 6th tied at 3 a side, Schoolcraft would put up a 4 spot in the inning to take the 7-3 lead. That would prove to be more than enough as Abel Gutierrez, who got the win in 2.2 innings out of the bullpen, would not let the Skippers score. Gutierrez would be nearly perfect out of the pen. Over his 2.2 innings, the only baserunner he would allow would come on a walk. Austin Smolenski got the start, going 4.1 innings with 5 hits, 3 earned runs, 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. Tashawn Eatmon, Bryan Tuttle, and Westfall each had 2 hits apiece. Tuttle would also knock in 3 runs.
The Ocelots and the Skippers face off again, at Sanborn Park in Port Huron on April 20 to finish off the season series. Currently, the Ocelots lead the season series 3 games to none. The first pitch is at 1:00 PM.
