Collage Concert XXV

College to host spring concert featuring Music Ensembles

Music lovers of all types are invited to attend the Collage Concert XXV on Saturday, April 9 at 8 p.m. in the DiPonio Room at the VisTaTech Center. Performing at the concert will be the Schoolcraft Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Improvisation, Chorale and Synthesizer Ensemble. All ages are welcome and ticket prices are $10 for adults, $5 for students with a school ID present, and children twelve and under as well as seniors are $5.

Both the Jazz Ensemble and the Jazz Improvisation groups will be featured during the performance. The Jazz ensemble features instruments such as saxophones, trumpets, and trombones, but also has a rhythm section devoted to vocals and piano.

The Improvisation group is smaller, consisting of eight members that feature a rhythm section and other instruments such as clarinets and tenor saxophone. Many different styles of music are performed.

Collage Concert XXV is happening this Saturday, April 9th in the DiPonio Room in the VisTaTech Center.

“This concert goes from one piece to the next,” said Director of Jazz Studies, Dr. Riccardo Selva. “It is non stop, there are no applauses in between.”

The Collegiate Chorale directed by Dr. Jonathan Drake features 20 to 40 students. There is a large variety of choral music performed.

“The Collegiate Chorale performs a variety of choral music ranging from classical to pop music for mixed voices,” said Dr. Drake. “Mixed voices include soprano, alto, tenor and bass.”

The Wind Ensemble is made up of a range of musical instruments. Performers have the option of playing Flute, Clarinet, Oboe, English Horn, Bassoon, Saxophone, French Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Baritone, Tuba and Percussion instruments. Roughly around 51 members participate each year. Not only is this ensemble made up of traditional credit students they also feature continuing education and professional development students. The Wind Ensemble is under the direction of Dr. Paul M. Michalsen.

“Every concert has variety and interesting selections that appeal to all ages,” said Michalsen. “The Wind Ensemble performs classical Band literature, modern music from all genres. Movies, Broadway Shows and original compositions.”

Being held in the ideal concert setting at the VisTaTech Center, the audience will be able to enjoy the performance in comfort while listening to talent that Schoolcraft has to offer.
