Do you have a GPA of 3.5 or higher? Do you want to be rewarded for your academic achievements with exclusive scholarships, professional development tools and benefits? Consider attending the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Omicron Iota’s fall orientation on Wednesday, Sept. 25, at 7 p.m. in the Kehrl Auditorium inside the VisTaTech Center and learn about the benefits of becoming a member.
During orientation, attendees will have the opportunity to meet the chapter officers and advisers. Topics of discussion will include scholarship opportunities, types of membership and the two projects the chapter will work on throughout the year. Finally, there will be a discussion regarding new opportunities for involvement available to potential new members.
All attendees will be entered to win either a pair of Ray Bans, Renaissance Tickets and more.
Eligibility to become member
PTK requires all members to have a minimum GPA of 3.5. Students must also accumulate at least 12 credit hours in courses above the 100 level. Upon completion of these requirements, students are extended an invitation to become a member.
A one-time fee of $110 is also required to join. Once membership is awarded, members will have access to a scholarship database as well as professional development programs recognized by universities and employers. Members are also given opportunities to develop themselves through on-campus projects.
Notable history
Phi Theta Kappa is an International Honor Society which recognizes high achieving academic students in two-year institutions. With over 1,250 chapters all-around the world, PTK is amongst the largest honor societies around. PTK holds each member to its Four Hallmarks: Service, Leadership, Fellowship and Scholarship. Not only does Phi Theta Kappa recognize an individual for their academic prowess, they promote further professional development through service-learning opportunities and Hallmark projects. Since its establishment in 1966, the Omicron Iota chapter at Schoolcraft has flourished, earning multiple awards highlighting their commitment to the Hallmarks of Phi Theta Kappa.
No matter where you are in your educational journey — or where you’re going — the benefits of a Phi Theta Kappa membership can help you achieve more.
