Second annual Health and Wellness Fair returns Oct. 3

Madison Ling, Campus Life Editor

With good food habits and daily physical activity, you will be well on your way to a healthy life. Easy to say, but sometimes not so easy to do.
On Oct. 3 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. inside the St. Joe’s Sports Dome, Schoolcraft will be hosting its second annual community Health and Wellness Fair. This event is free and open to the public and is aims to provide the community with the best local resources that promote fitness, wellness and a healthy lifestyle.
Activities include, hearing and vision testing, gait analysis from Gazelle Sports of Northville and a presentation from Mercy Elite Sports Performance to name a few.
“The goal of the Health and Wellness Fair is to provide the community with the best resources possible to live a healthy life,” according to Megan Monthei, Membership Services Specialist for the Schoolcraft Fitness Center and St. Joe’s Sports Dome.
In addition to these activities, the Schoolcraft College Massage Therapy program will be doing free chair massages and there will be two free, half-hour long yoga sessions conducted by Schoolcraft’s Continuing Education Department. The morning session will begin at 10:30 a.m. and the afternoon class will start at 1 p.m. for those interested in attending.
Among the vendors this year are local gyms, health food stores and more. Schoolcraft’s Fitness Center, Healthy Livonia and CNS Healthcare are only a few out of the 20+ vendors coming to the Health and Wellness Fair to assist the community on their path to a healthy lifestyle. Healthy Livonia is a collaborative effort to create a supportive health environment with a specific focus in schools and the workplace. CNS Healthcare is a certified community behavioral health clinic that offers support services like psychotherapy, nursing and case management.
“The overall goal is to provide health services to those that need physical and psychological support.” Monthei concludes. “Anyone can benefit from attending this event, regardless of their age, income or the type of challenges they’re facing. It’s what we’re here to do.”
