Happy Ocelot Thanksgiving
Turkey basket giveaway underway
November 21, 2019
During this season of thanks and Ocelot Pride, the Student Activities Office is giving away Turkey Baskets complete with trimmings to struggling students. Those receiving baskets were nominated via a filled out form by a fellow Ocelot and are being contacted this week to pick up their free dinner from the office in Lower Waterman of the VisTaTech Center.
“The goal of this project is to provide people going through a rough patch with an opportunity to still celebrate Thanksgiving with their family and to have a good meal at no cost.” Student Activities Director, Todd Stowell, explained.
The Thanksgiving Basket Giveaway has been warming the hearts and bellies of fellow Ocelots for the past 5 to 6 years and was able to provide 40 families with a holiday dinner this year alone. Each basket feeds up to 5 people and contains a turkey complete with traditional fixings such as potatoes, green beans and even pumpkin pie for dessert. All of the food is provided by Gordon Food Service (GFS) through the contribution of Schoolcraft’s culinary program and the Poinsettia sales conducted by the Student Activities Office (SAO) each year.
“I am highly thankful to everyone that helped me out when my family was in need and would do the same thing for anyone struggling to make ends meet,” 2018 recipient, Kyle Smith, commented. “This is a wonderful thing to do for anyone who needs the help. It’s great knowing that they have a chance to eat and enjoy the good times with family and friends on Thanksgiving.”
This season let’s come together as a family of Ocelots and show that we support each other through thick and thin.
