The Macomb Community College Monarchs erupted for a big third inning and cruised to an 11–1 victory over Schoolcraft College on March 28 at The Corner Ballpark.
Macomb broke the game open in the third inning, plating six runs to take control early. The rally was highlighted by a grand slam from Vito Zito, which gave the Monarchs a commanding lead and energized the Macomb dugout.
Zito finished with four RBIs, while Dominic Cavacini added three RBIs and Peyton Rich drove in two runs as part of a balanced Macomb attack that produced 15 hits. Lochlan Stoudt also contributed with two hits and a run scored, and Aidan Miller chipped in two hits and an RBI.
On the mound, Greg Burns dominated for Macomb, allowing just two hits and one run over six innings while striking out 10 to earn the win and improve to 4–1 on the season. The Monarchs bullpen combined to allow just one additional hit over the final three innings to secure the victory.
Schoolcraft’s lone run came in the third inning on an RBI from Jace Walerski. Tony Mendez led the Ocelots offensively with two hits, but the team managed only three hits overall and struck out 12 times against Macomb pitching.
The loss dropped Schoolcraft to 9–15 overall and 0–5 in conference play, while Macomb improved to 13–10 overall and remained unbeaten in conference at 5–0.
