In the wake of COVID-19, finding the right job can become a struggle in such a competitive market. In light of this, Schoolcraft Career Services has launched the Employer Spotlight. Co-sponsored by the Schoolcraft College Business Club, this event entails a series of free zoom presentations which are open to the public. Employers from different companies and organizations will be featured and share strategies on how to thrive in today’s job market.

Scheduled events for September and October include: Amazon: Jobs & Careers with Amazon, Cyberforce Q: Building a Network with LinkedIn, KLA: High-tech Careers, Hagopian: Navigating Your Career Search, UWM: Prepping for a Job Interview & Building a LinkedIn Profile, Ascension Providence Park Hospital: Nursing & Patient Care Clinical Careers, Bridgewater Interiors: Careers In the Automotive Industry and Pepsi: A Day in the Life in the Beverage Industry.

“Many of our employers will be providing students and today’s job seekers with valuable information to find employment or advance their careers like how to network, how to prepare for a job interview, how to create a strong LinkedIn profile and to learn about job & career options that they may not have thought of,” explains Director of Career Services JoAnne Stadnicar. Many of the employers presenting during this spotlight will also have current openings, giving attendees the perfect chance to learn what is needed of them and how to further pursue their career. This is all done in the hopes of providing job seekers with critical tools needed to connect with employers who happen to regularly hire Schoolcraft students, grads and members of our surrounding community. Stadnicar believes that there is something to gain for anyone attending. Students may prepare for their future role in the job market, experienced job seekers can expand their knowledge and gain tips to find what’s right for them and those exploring their options can gain new opportunities with these events open to all.

I often find that our students think they must wait until they graduate before using our services or talking with employers,” Stadnicar states. “Nothing could be further from the truth! There are so many ways that Career Services can help students prepare from day one for their eventual careers. Even community members should be aware that all of our services (except for student employment on campus) are open to them, free of charge.”

With goals rooted in building a stronger community, helping employers find qualified job candidates and providing the resources that can help everyone advance their employment search and careers are the first steps.
