It was six months ago that the world flipped upside down and essentially closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In response to this unexpected turn of events, many began to ponder what they could do to occupy their time during quarantine. After all, nothing beats curling up with an engaging book. That’s why Schoolcraft College has invited up and coming author, Lysley Tenorio, to highlight his new novel the “Son of Good Fortune” via Zoom Nov. 4 at noon.

“Schoolcraft students, faculty, staff, community are all welcome to join the members of Pageturners and the International Institute for this presentation,” states co-chair of the International Institute and English professor, Helen Ditouras. “The goal is to introduce everyone to the wonderful work of critically acclaimed author and professor, Lysley Tenorio.”

Tenorio’s novel is about a young teenager named Excel, who has spent his who life trying to blend into the crowd and avoid catching attention. However, this is quite a feat considering his mother was once a famous Filipina B-movie action star that spends her days scamming men online to make ends meet. At 10 years old, his mother revealed to Excel that he was undocumented and one wrong move could ruin his cover. His paranoia follows him like a dark cloud throughout his childhood, but everything changes when he meets his girlfriend, Sab, and takes a trip to Hello City.

Lysley Tenorio will be appearing on zoom to chat with the SC community on Wednesday, November 4th, at 12 pm on Zoom.

“The benefits of attending this event include an opportunity to engage with a critically acclaimed author and learn more about issues embedded in the novel such as immigration, identity and culture,” Ditouras explained.

Don’t miss out on this chance to meet a talent author and discuss some of today’s most prevalent challenges. Those interested in attending this event may join the Zoom session using this link:
