In the heart of the Vistatech Center, every Wednesday at noon, a group of passionate individualsvgather in Conference Room C; not just to talk, but to act. The Women’s Advocacy Club, a student-led initiative, is making waves on campus by championing the rights, dignity, and empowerment of women both locally and globally.
Founded on the belief that awareness must lead to action, the club’s mission is clear: to raise awareness about the challenges women face and to transform that understanding into meaningful support. Whether addressing issues like abuse, body image, or personal autonomy, the club recognizes that the experiences of women globally are diverse and deeply personal. Advocacy, they argue, is not a one-size-fits- all concept, it’s about meeting women where they are and standing beside them.
“Our goal is to uplift and empower the women in our community,” says Maha Saeed, president and founder of the club. “But we also want to engage men in this conversation. Change doesn’t happen in isolation, it happens when everyone becomes an ally.”
The club’s approach is both inclusive and action-oriented. Members are currently planning a series of campus events aimed at raising funds for women’s shelters and other vital causes. These events will also serve as platforms for education and dialogue, inviting the student body and community to learn, reflect, and participate in the movement for gender equity.
But the club’s impact goes beyond fundraising, it’s about creating a safe space. A patriarchy-free zone where women can feel confident, supported, and heard. Within the club, there’s a palpable sense of sisterhood.Members encourage each other, protect one another, and share ideas freely. This internal culture of care and solidarity is the foundation for the broader change they hope to inspire.
“Change starts with us,” Saeed emphasizes. “By empowering the women in our club, we’re building the strength to empower others on campus and in the community.”
The club also embraces the complexity of women’s advocacy. They understand that the issues women face vary across cultures, communities, and individual lives. Advocacy can be as simple as walking a friend home safely or as bold as speaking out against sexual harassment and trafficking. This nuanced understanding allows the club to remain flexible, compassionate, and responsive to the needs of those they serve.
Importantly, the Women’s Advocacy Club is not exclusive to women. Men are welcome and encouraged to join, because the fight for gender equity requires all voices. By fostering a space where everyone can learn and contribute, the club is building a coalition of allies ready to challenge injustice and support one another.
As the club continues to grow, its members remain committed to their core values: awareness, action, and empowerment. They are not just advocating for women, they are redefining what it means to be part of a community that values equity, compassion, and courage.
For anyone interested in joining or learning more, the Women’s Advocacy Club meets every Wednesday at 12 p.m. in Conference Room C at the Vistatech Center. Whether you’re looking to get involved, support a cause, or simply find a space where your voice matters, this club is ready to welcome you.
